Earth Care’s Sustainable Schools is a service-learning interdisciplinary program for K-12 Santa Fe Public School students to study the interconnectedness of people and the natural world and develop a deeper understanding and connection to our environment and community.
The program begins in the fall with one-hour a week hands-on lessons in the classroom or in school gardens and culminates with community action projects and Days of Service in the spring. Throughout the year, Earth Care Educators work with students to examine and improve the way their school uses natural resources and/or to sustain school gardens.
The Student Coalition is a youth-led group of students representing middle and high schools throughout the City working together to make Santa Fe the first *green* school district in the Country. They work with fellow students & schools’ green clubs to lead campaigns to address each of the eight Eco-Schools Pathways.
Earth Care in partnership with the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe Public Schools present the annual Sustainable School Awards to recognize the efforts of students to reduce the environmental impact of their schools. Projects submitted for an award should be completed during the school year and address one of the following categories: Consumption & Waste, Water, Energy, Food, Transportation, School Grounds & Outdoor Habitat, Green Hour, Global Dimensions are recognized each year at the annual GYSD/Earth Day Service Event.
