No doubt you've been following the news on the human rights crisis on our southern border over the last few weeks. You may have already heard the good news that a federal judge in San Diego issued a preliminary injunction Tuesdayat the request of the American Civil Liberties Union that calls for all children affected by the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” immigration policy to be reunited with their parents within 30 days. Under the order, children younger than 5 years old must be reunited with their parents within 14 days, while older children must be reunited with their parents within 30 days. Within 10 days, federal authorities must allow parents to call their children if they're not already in contact with them.
It's critical that we all keep up the pressure and push for comprehensive immigration reform - for the rights of migrants, asylum seekers and undocumented residents in our country - not just a short-term fix to this disaster that's come to a head and that has garnered national attention.
