October Calls to Action!

This month's calls to action features four different sections. Indigenous Peoples' Day events, Sustainability in practice events and workshops, social justice events and some Climate Strike events (full/updated list here - https://www.youthunited4climatecrisisaction.org/).

INDIGENOUS PEOPLES' DAY

In March of 2019, our State Legislature finally made Indigenous Peoples' Day a state holiday on the second Monday of October! Columbus day is officially off the books. Read the legislation here. This legislation follows years and years of organizing work from Indigenous Peoples' and allies. Santa Fe and Albuquerque adopted Indigenous People's day a few years before 2019 thanks to organizations like The Red Nation, UNM Kiva Club, Tewa Women United, Three Sisters Collective and many many more! Below are some local celebrations and demonstrations - check them out! And then donate to Indigenous led organizations and educate yourself on the history of the land we stand on and what you can do to be an accomplice in the struggle for liberation.

Indigenous Peoples' Day 2019 - ABQ

On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we call on all those who oppose ICE raids, family separation, deportations, and incarceration to unite against the racist persecution of Indigenous and poor people by the United States.

It is time to say, “¡Basta Ya!” Enough is enough!

In concert with a national call to action issued by the Coalition to Close the Concentration Camps (closetheconcentrationcamps.org), #TheRedNation will lead an #IPD2019 rally and march in solidarity with our Indigenous, refugee, and migrant relatives who are being brutalized, caged, and killed by the US government. We demand that the US government #CloseTheCamps and #LetEveryonein.

Better yet, we demand the US government cede power to the Indigenous nations who possess rightful political authority in these lands. The United States has no authority on stolen land. However, we as Indigenous peoples and nations of these lands, reclaim our authority to determine the criteria for citizenship and belonging. And we say:

#NoBansOnStolenLands
#NoCampsOnStolenLands
#NoBordersOnStolenLands
#SovereigntyAsSanctuary
