Bianca Sopoci-Belknap

Co-Director

She/Her

Bianca works behind the scenes supporting the organizing staff and member leaders who develop and execute Earth Care's organizing campaigns with a focus on mentoring the amazing youth of YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action) who lead our Climate Emergency Campaign. She also leads the support staff team - that ensures the organization runs smoothly. She joined the organization after moving back home to Santa Fe after college. At 24 years old she was hired to coordinate Earth Care's first youth leadership and organizing program - Youth Allies. For a decade she worked with young people to develop and execute the organizations youth and community programs. In 2014, she assumed the role of Executive Director for a short time in order to clean up after a failed post-founder leadership transition. In her short stead as ED, Bianca convened alumni, program participants, and a new staff and board comprised of members of the community to reimagine the organization in the image of its youth-led programming model. The team worked to collectively transform Earth Care into the grassroots, shared-leadership, BIPOC, member-led organization it is today.  The role of ED was eliminated and a shared-leadership model was instituted. Born and raised in New Mexico, Bianca first started organizing around issues of social justice and sustainability in her home community when she was a teen at Santa Fe High School. Before joining Earth Care, Bianca worked as an educator and community advocate for a number of organizations across the country including Global Exchange, the Border Network for Human Rights, Del Pueblo Inc., Local Energy, and Antioch College. She served as the Mayor appointed Chair of the Sustainable Santa Fe Commission for 3 years and was also an appointed member of the Santa Fe Policy Council. She currently splits her time between Earth Care and New Energy Economy where she implements climate justice campaigns and supports the staff as its Associate Director.
