We believe that the family is the basic unit of any society. However it is shaped, a strong, healthy, united and conscientious family creates leadership and success at the individual, family and community levels.
Poder Familiar Family Leadership Collaborative was formed through struggles to achieve educational equity and justice, have appropriate representation at the local government level, and achieve adequate services for our community.
We are working on several projects with our parent and family leaders including Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors Training Sessions, Community Goals, Cuerdas del Corazón as well as hosting many more events throughout the year!
We also facilitate and build family leadership in public and community education. Earth Care continues it’s critical role in building leadership capacity for family engagement in schools, in creating transformation educational experiences for youth and families, and working with schools and the district to create equitable and just learning environments.
About Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors
Abriendo Puertas is an evidence-based program created by and for Latino parents with children ages 0-5. It also provides resources for parents with older children, sharing positive parenting experiences and strategies. This course, apart from being for parents, is also for people who work with children, grandparents, uncles, brothers, godmothers and neighbors who are part of the upbringing of a child.

Miriam Luevano
My name is Miriam Luevano, I was born in Cd. Juarez Chih. I have been in New Mexico for 17 years now. I am currently the program coordinator of Abriendo Puertas and Poder Familiar programming. I am also the mother of 3 beautiful children. My favorite hobbies are traveling and walking with my family, reading and walking through natural places.
I am pleased to help my community and help parents who are looking for a better parenting for their children. I have been a member of Poder Familiar for 5 years, I started taking the Abriendo Puertas course and that opened the way for me to study early childhood education. I am pleased to be a part of this beautiful program.
