September is a month of change – leaves turn colors as trees prepare to go dormant, wildlife prepare to hunker down as winter looms, and we swap balmy afternoons for crisp breezes. But this year, it’s not just the seasons that are shifting.
We are living through a moment where our freedoms are under attack, fascism is on the rise, and the stability of our institutions is being eroded. That’s why we’re uniting with our communities and local partners this month to demand our leaders seize every opportunity to fight back – and we need you with us.
This Thursday, our community has another chance to weigh in on the Martinez-Yazzie Action Plan as Earth Care and our educational justice partners facilitate virtual group discussions to hear your vision for an equitable education system that finally delivers for our children.
We are also hosting Santa Fe’s only Spanish-first, virtual mayoral candidate forum on September 29th – conducted primarily in Spanish with English interpretation – to ensure our communities have equitable access to the information they need to make informed decisions. This is our chance to hear directly from mayoral candidates and learn how they plan to address the issues impacting our neighborhoods every day.
In the midst of all these exciting opportunities, we’re also taking a moment to rest, reflect and celebrate YOU. La Milpa – and our entire organization – was built by our community coming together in the spirit of collective care and the shared belief that a better world is possible. That’s why we’re excited to invite you to our Tardeada en La Milpa for carne asada, folklorico, music and kids games.

Celebrate Our Earth Care Community at Tardeada en La Milpa!
Over the past year, La Milpa has sown the beginnings of many seeds - planting trees and shrubs, hosting gardening classes, and creating peace prayer space in the heart of our community garden. Growth doesn’t always come with ease, but through every challenge, our community has kept showing up to nurture this space – and now, we’re gathering to welcome the turn of the fall season and celebrate all that we’ve grown together.
You’re invited to join us on Sunday, September 28th from 4:00-7:00 pm at Earth Care (6600 Valentine Way, Santa Fe) for Tardeada en La Milpa – an afternoon of fresh local food, dance performances, live music, kids’ games, and more!
A tardeada is a longtime Mexican tradition of informal gathering in the afternoons to share meals, stories and quality time with each other – the perfect way to connect and celebrate together. This tardeada is free and open to all, so bring your family, friends, and neighbors to enjoy!
Celebrations are at the heart of many of our cultures – a way to honor our work, share stories and food, reconnect with one another, and strengthen our relationships. We’re excited to fill the garden with joy, connection, and community as we gather to celebrate our shared power and the future we’re building together.
Call for Hands!
Before we gather to celebrate, we need your support to ready the garden for the coming season and care for the land that sustains us before temperatures drop.
We are asking for helping hands to clear overgrown areas, move mulch, and tend to a few other garden maintenance duties. The Milpa team will be working every weekday evening this week after 5 p.m. – come by when you can and help us get La Milpa ready for the season!

Join Us For Our Spanish-First Mayoral Candidate Forum!
Our communities matter.
That’s why Earth Care is partnering with the Human Rights Alliance, Somos Un Pueblo Unido, Fathers New Mexico and the DSA to host Santa Fe’s only Spanish-first mayoral candidate forum – hosted virtually and conducted primarily in Spanish with English interpretation – on September 29th from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Across the country, our communities are facing the impacts of fascist attacks as bigotry and violence are being written into policy. That’s why it’s essential for us to meet this moment together. This forum will focus on language justice and the issues impacting marginalized communities on a daily basis – from disinvestment in our neighborhoods, to a lack of access to services, to rising hate.
Santa Fe needs a leader who values our communities and will stand up to protect us. It’s time for revolutionary thinking and leadership.
Come listen, get informed, and help us support policies that protect and uplift our families. Your presence shows that we care about our communities, our vote, and our future.
Help Shape the Martinez-Yazzie Action Plan With Us During This Week's Town Hall!
It’s time for real change in New Mexico. It’s been more than seven years since a judge ruled that the state’s education system was failing our children and violating their constitutional rights. And in that time, we’ve watched our state leaders offer only piecemeal fixes instead of the bold, systemic change our children deserve.
Our friends at Transform Education New Mexico, the Tribal Education Alliance and the New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty are hosting a virtual town hall this Thursday, September 18th to help shape the Martinez-Yazzie education plan the state must create by November 1st. During the town hall, Earth Care will be facilitating small group discussions focused on gathering your ideas and co-creating a vision for a just, equitable education system that supports our children with the resources they need to thrive.

Septiembre es un mes de cambios – las hojas cambian de color mientras los árboles se preparan para entrar en letargo, la fauna se prepara para refugiarse ante la llegada del invierno y cambiamos las tardes templadas por brisas frescas. Pero este año, no solo están cambiando las estaciones.
Estamos viviendo un momento en el que nuestras libertades están siendo atacadas, el fascismo está en auge y la estabilidad de nuestras instituciones se está viendo erosionada. Por eso, este mes nos unimos a nuestras comunidades y socios locales para exigir a nuestros líderes que aprovechen todas las oportunidades para luchar, y necesitamos que nos acompañen.
Este jueves, nuestra comunidad tiene otra oportunidad de opinar sobre el Plan de Acción Martínez-Yazzie, ya que Earth Care y nuestros socios de justicia educativa facilitan debates grupales virtuales para escuchar su visión de un sistema educativo equitativo que finalmente satisfaga las necesidades de nuestros hijos.
También organizaremos el único foro virtual de candidatos a la alcaldía de Santa Fe en español el 29 de septiembre, que se llevará a cabo principalmente en español con interpretación al inglés, para garantizar que nuestras comunidades tengan acceso equitativo a la información que necesitan para tomar decisiones informadas. Esta es nuestra oportunidad de escuchar directamente a los candidatos a la alcaldía y conocer cómo planean abordar los problemas que afectan a nuestros vecindarios todos los días.
En medio de todas estas emocionantes oportunidades, también nos tomamos un momento para descansar, reflexionar y celebrar TU presencia. La Milpa, y toda nuestra organización, se construyó gracias a la unión de nuestra comunidad, animada por un espíritu de cuidado colectivo y la creencia compartida de que es posible un mundo mejor. Durante el último año, La Milpa ha sembrado las primeras semillas: plantando árboles y arbustos, impartiendo clases de jardinería y creando un espacio de oración por la paz en el corazón de nuestro huerto comunitario. El crecimiento no siempre es fácil, pero a pesar de todos los retos, nuestra comunidad ha seguido acudiendo para cuidar este espacio y ahora nos reunimos para dar la bienvenida al otoño y celebrar todo lo que hemos cultivado juntos.
Te invitamos a unirte a nosotros el domingo 28 de septiembre, de 4:00 a 7:00 p. m., en Earth Care (6600 Valentine Way, Santa Fe) para la Tardeada en La Milpa, una tarde de comida fresca local, espectáculos de danza, música en vivo, juegos para niños y mucho más.
Una tardeada es una antigua tradición mexicana que consiste en una reunión informal por la tarde para compartir comidas, historias y momentos agradables con los demás, la forma perfecta de conectar y celebrar juntos. Esta tardeada es gratuita y abierta a todos, así que traiga a su familia, amigos y vecinos para disfrutarla.
Las celebraciones son el corazón de muchas de nuestras culturas, una forma de honrar nuestro trabajo, compartir historias y comida, reconectar entre nosotros y fortalecer nuestras relaciones. Estamos emocionados de llenar el jardín de alegría, conexión y comunidad mientras nos reunimos para celebrar nuestro poder compartido y el futuro que estamos construyendo juntos.

Antes de reunirnos para celebrar, necesitamos tu apoyo para preparar el jardín para la próxima temporada y cuidar la tierra que nos sustenta antes de que bajen las temperaturas.
Necesitamos ayuda para limpiar las zonas cubiertas de maleza, mover el mantillo y realizar otras tareas de mantenimiento del huerto. El equipo de La Milpa trabajará todos los días laborables a partir de las 5 de la tarde. ¡Ven cuando puedas y ayúdanos a preparar La Milpa para la temporada!

Por eso, Earth Care se ha asociado con Human Rights Alliance, Somos Un Pueblo Unido, Fathers New Mexico y DSA para organizar el único foro de candidatos a la alcaldía de Santa Fe en español, que se celebrará de forma virtual y se llevará a cabo principalmente en español con interpretación al inglés, el 29 de septiembre a las 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
En todo el país, nuestras comunidades se enfrentan a los efectos de los ataques fascistas, ya que la intolerancia y la violencia se están incorporando a las políticas. Por eso es esencial que afrontemos juntos este momento. Este foro se centrará en la justicia lingüística y en las cuestiones que afectan a las comunidades marginadas a diario, desde la desinversión en nuestros barrios hasta la falta de acceso a los servicios y el aumento del odio.
Santa Fe necesita un líder que valore nuestras comunidades y que se levante para protegernos. Es hora de un pensamiento y un liderazgo revolucionarios.
Ven a escuchar, infórmate y ayúdanos a apoyar políticas que protejan y mejoren la vida de nuestras familias. Tu presencia demuestra que nos importan nuestras comunidades, nuestro voto y nuestro futuro.
¡Ayude a Dar Forma al Plan de Acción Martinez-Yazzie en la Reunión Pública de Esta Semana!
Es hora de un cambio real en Nuevo México. Han pasado más de siete años desde que un juez dictaminó que el sistema educativo del estado estaba fallando a nuestros hijos y violando sus derechos constitucionales. Y en ese tiempo, hemos visto cómo nuestros líderes estatales solo ofrecían soluciones parciales en lugar del cambio audaz y sistémico que nuestros hijos merecen.
Nuestros amigos de Transform Education New Mexico, la Tribal Education Alliance y el New Mexico Center on Law and Poverty organizan una reunión municipal virtual este jueves, 18 de septiembre, para ayudar a dar forma al plan educativo Martinez-Yazzie que el estado debe crear antes del 1 de noviembre. Durante la reunión, Earth Care moderará debates en pequeños grupos centrados en recopilar sus ideas y crear conjuntamente una visión para un sistema educativo justo y equitativo que apoye a nuestros hijos con los recursos que necesitan para prosperar.
