We've been living through tumultuous times. Our communities have experienced so much trauma in the last six months alone. We're experiencing attacks from people in the highest offices targeting the most vulnerable of us.

Earth Care is choosing to recognize this moment as a time to stand up stronger, not back down. We realized that it's not enough to say amongst ourselves that we support the LGBTQ+ community. We need to show up loudly.

We invite you to take some time to read our statement below about our commitment and stick with us as we continue to develop intentional programming that centers and welcomes our LGBTQ+ community. Times are tough, but we are as motivated as ever to be here to support our LGBTQ+ friends, family and neighbors.

Our Reflections on Pride

Now that Pride Month has drawn to a close, we at Earth Care have been reflecting deeply on what this year’s Pride meant to us and what it demands of us moving forward. We are standing in the face of a fascist government bent on destroying our communities, whether that be by terrorizing families through immigration raids, enabling and promoting violence toward LGBTQ+ people, attacking our freedom of speech through unlawful arrest of dissenters like Mahmoud Khalil, and repeated violence and intimidation. We see the fear in our communities, but at the same time, we see a revolutionary spirit standing up to fight time and time again.

This year we witnessed a rise in hate toward Pride’s very existence and the existence of LGBTQ+ people. On the very first day of Pride, we mourned the murder of the prominent Indigenous, LGBTQ+ actor Jonathan Joss, who was targeted simply because his neighbors hated him and his partner for who they are. But we also witnessed thousands of people standing up and showing up to say the LGBTQ+ community is not going anywhere. We saw people take to the streets to protect our existence and protect our friends and neighbors, no matter their gender, sexual orientation, race or immigration status. Earth Care wants to affirm our unwavering commitment to our LGBTQ+ community. We vow to protect and uplift you through our solidarity and intentionally reminding the entire Santa Fe community that LGBTQ+ people are always welcome here.

We want to take a moment to recognize the immigrant LGBTQ+ community in particular, who are now facing threats on multiple levels. Our corrupt, hateful federal government is mobilizing to target civilians for deportation and arrest, ramping up hateful rhetoric and action while peddling myths and false narratives that queerness is unwelcome in immigrant cultures. At Earth Care, we reject that narrative – LGBTQ+ people have always existed across every culture, language, and border. We condemn homophobia, bigotry, gender-based violence, transphobia and hate crimes in all its forms no matter who is perpetuating it. We’d also like to break free from stereotypes and celebrate the immigrant cultures that make the LGBTQ+ community and our Santa Fe community vibrant and beautiful. LGBTQ+ people from all cultures have always been here. There has never been a world without LGBTQ+ people and we will never allow there be a world without them.

We hope you all had a safe, joyful Pride. We will continue to uplift and defend each of you every single month of the year.

Hemos estado viviendo tiempos difíciles. Nuestras comunidades han sufrido mucho trauma tan solo en los últimos seis meses. Estamos sufriendo ataques de personas en los puestos más altos contra los más vulnerables.

Earth Care ha decidido reconocer este momento como un momento para levantarnos con más fuerza, no para rendirnos. Nos dimos cuenta de que no es suficiente solo decir que apoyamos a la comunidad LGBTQ+. Necesitamos alzar la voz.

Los invitamos a leer nuestra declaración a continuación sobre nuestro compromiso y a acompañarnos mientras continuamos desarrollando una programación intencional que centra y da la bienvenida a nuestra comunidad LGBTQ+. Son tiempos difíciles, pero estamos más motivados que nunca para apoyar a nuestros amigos, familiares y vecinos LGBTQ+.

Nuestras Reflexiones Sobre el Mes de Orgullo

Ahora que el Mes del Orgullo ha llegado a su fin, en Earth Care hemos estado reflexionando profundamente sobre lo que significó el Orgullo de este año para nosotros y lo que nos exige de cara al futuro. Nos enfrentamos a un gobierno fascista empeñado en destruir nuestras comunidades, ya sea aterrorizando a familias mediante redadas migratorias, permitiendo y promoviendo la violencia contra las personas LGBTQ+, atacando nuestra libertad de expresión mediante el arresto ilegal de disidentes como Mahmoud Khalil, y la violencia e intimidación constantes. Vemos el miedo en nuestras comunidades, pero al mismo tiempo, vemos un espíritu revolucionario que se alza para luchar una y otra vez.

Este año presenciamos un aumento del odio hacia la propia existencia del Orgullo y la existencia de las personas LGBTQ+. El primer día del Orgullo, lamentamos el asesinato del destacado actor indígena LGBTQ+ Jonathan Joss, quien fue atacado simplemente porque sus vecinos lo odiaban a él y a su pareja por ser quienes son. Pero también presenciamos a miles de personas alzarse y manifestarse para decir que la comunidad LGBTQ+ no se irá a ninguna parte. Vimos a personas salir a las calles para proteger nuestra existencia y proteger a nuestros amigos y vecinos, sin importar su género, orientación sexual, raza o estatus migratorio. Earth Care quiere reafirmar nuestro compromiso inquebrantable con nuestra comunidad LGBTQ+. Nos comprometemos a protegerlos y apoyarlos mediante nuestra solidaridad y recordando intencionalmente a toda la comunidad de Santa Fe que las personas LGBTQ+ siempre son bienvenidas aquí.

Queremos tomarnos un momento para reconocer en particular a la comunidad LGBTQ+ inmigrante, que ahora enfrenta amenazas en múltiples niveles. Nuestro gobierno federal, corrupto y lleno de odio, se está movilizando para deportar y arrestar a civiles, intensificando la retórica y las acciones de odio, mientras difunde mitos y narrativas falsas de que la identidad queer no es bienvenida en las culturas inmigrantes. En Earth Care, rechazamos esa narrativa: las personas LGBTQ+ siempre han existido en todas las culturas, idiomas y fronteras. Condenamos la homofobia, la intolerancia, la violencia de género, la transfobia y los crímenes de odio en todas sus formas, sin importar quién los perpetúe. También queremos romper con los estereotipos y celebrar las culturas inmigrantes que hacen que la comunidad LGBTQ+ y nuestra comunidad de Santa Fe sean vibrantes y hermosas. Las personas LGBTQ+ de todas las culturas siempre han estado aquí. Nunca ha habido un mundo sin personas LGBTQ+ y nunca permitiremos que haya un mundo sin ellas.

Esperamos que hayan tenido un Orgullo seguro y feliz. Seguiremos animándolos y defendiéndolos cada mes del año.
