New Mexico Climate Strike! September 14, 2023.

On Global Climate Strike Day, September 14, 2023, we will be standing in solidarity with frontline communities and youth from around the world. Our gathering will start at Robinson Park and end outside of the Clyde Hotel in Albuquerque, where the "Advanced Energy Ecosystem New Mexico" summit is scheduled to occur. This summit is being hosted and sponsored by Democratic leadership who claim to be champions in the fight against the climate crisis. However, it has come to our attention that the summit will advocate for FALSE CLIMATE SOLUTIONS such as nuclear energy, carbon capture and sequestration, hydrogen, and misleading net-zero promises. Additionally, it is supported by major fossil fuel corporations like Exxon Mobil, BP oil, Shell, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and others, which have a well-documented history of prioritizing profit over the wellness of people and our environment. YUCCA firmly believes that these proposed solutions will not only fail to address the climate crisis but will also inflict harm upon the already vulnerable frontline communities who are experiencing the most severe consequences of climate change. To gain a deeper understanding of our research and stance on false climate solutions, you can visit NM No False Solutions. It is clear to us that when our political leaders align themselves with the fossil fuel industry, they are not advocating for the future of our youth or the health of our planet; instead, they are endorsing corporate interests and financial gains. Therefore, we are taking action to engage with elected officials and discuss critical issues related to climate justice, sharing our personal experiences, and explaining why we are vehemently opposed to false solutions such as nuclear energy, hydrogen, carbon capture and sequestration, and misleading net-zero commitments. We will kick off our rally at Robinson Park at 11:30 AM on September 14th, followed by a march to the Clyde Hotel, located near Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque, where the summit is taking place. During this event, you can expect to hear from experts about the harms of the false solutions being peddled inside, and alternative proposals - for a People's Climate Plan which centers renewables, restoration, and regenerative economic development. In addition, join us for captivating performances, inspiring speeches, and enthusiastic chants from 11:30 AM until approximately 1:30 PM. We are also curating a lineup of exceptional young speakers, climate advocates, experts, poets, and artists to ensure that our rally is not only impactful but also a resounding call for climate justice.
